Megawide Foundation welcomes future industry leaders with new college scholars

Megawide Corporate Foundation, Inc. (MCFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Megawide Construction Corporation, celebrated a milestone in nurturing the next generation of industry leaders as it formally welcomed its newest cohort of scholars for the 2024–2025 academic year. The Foundation held its first-ever symbolic jacket-handing ceremony on November 6 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Suites in Quezon City.

This inaugural event marked the official induction of students into the Megawide Scholarship Program (MSP), a testament to the Foundation’s commitment to empowering future professionals in fields such as Accountancy, Management Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Real Estate Management. Scholars received custom jackets, symbolizing their inclusion in the Megawide family and their journey toward academic and professional excellence.

“This ceremony is more than a rite of passage; it’s an acknowledgment of our scholars’ potential and hard work,” said MCFI President Tata Saavedra. “By supporting their education, we are empowering future leaders who will play crucial roles in helping advance our nation and creating First-World opportunities for their communities.”

Inspiring leadership and a vision for the future

The event began with a motivational address by MCFI Independent Director Celso Vivas, who shared his journey from working student to industry leader. He underscored the importance of resilience and determination, qualities that resonate deeply with the scholars’ aspirations.

A panel discussion followed, featuring Vivas, Saavedra, MCFI Independent Trustee Paulette Lui, and Megawide Construction Chief Operating Officer Frederick Tan. They shared insights into Megawide’s dedication to nation-building and offered guidance on career opportunities in the industry. This interactive session provided scholars with inspiration and practical advice as they prepare to embark on their professional journeys.

Holistic development for academic and leadership excellence

Since its inception in 2015, MCFI’s scholarship program has supported nearly 100 students, combining financial assistance with a comprehensive approach to development. Beyond academics, the program includes leadership training, life skills workshops, psychosocial support, and mentorship through its “MeGabay” sessions. These initiatives, led by industry leaders and subject matter experts, aim to equip scholars with the tools to become effective leaders in their chosen fields.

“By investing in the holistic development of its scholars, MCFI prepares them not just for academic success but for the responsibilities and challenges of leadership,” shared Saavedra. “This creates a generation of professionals ready to contribute to a sustainable and thriving economy.”

The Foundation works closely with partner universities, including Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (DLSU-CSB), University of the Philippines (UP), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), and Technological University of the Philippines (TUP). Through rigorous assessments, culminating home visits, and collaboration with registered social workers, MCFI ensures the selection of deserving scholars who embody the values of excellence, integrity, and community.

A celebration of family and community

The ceremony brought together 35 scholars, accompanied by their families, who expressed gratitude for the life-changing opportunities provided by the Foundation. Deans from partner universities and Megawide executives were also present to celebrate this milestone, highlighting the collaborative effort required to uplift Filipino communities.

By fostering a culture of education, integrity, and community, MCFI reaffirms its commitment to building a brighter future. Through initiatives like the Megawide Scholarship Program, the Foundation continues its mission to create lasting change, developing a skilled workforce capable of transforming the nation.
