A sanctuary for the modern gentleman: What makes a man cave?

A man cave, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is “a room or space designed according to the taste of the man of the house to be used as his personal area for hobbies and leisure activities.”

It is indeed for you, the man of the house. It’s a place that shows who you are and holds your hobbies and interests. More importantly, it’s where you can retreat and be in solitude after a long day.

It can be any part of the house—the basement, bedroom, and study room, among others. It is a place where you  can put everything that can help you relax after a hard day’s work. Truly, it’s a sanctuary for every man.

Thinking about having your own man cave? Check out these must-haves.

A comfortable chair is one of the key parts of a man cave.

A nice lounge

One of the key parts of a man cave is a nice, comfortable chair for you to just sit back and relax.

A nice leather sectional is a great choice for relaxing your back with its down-filled cushions. A sophisticated armchair is also perfect if you want to just recline.

Take a nap, check social media, or simply forget about the tiring day just by laying or sitting down in any lounge chair of your choice.

Bounded by the book

One of the many relaxing things you can do after a long day is to read a book. A 2009 study by the University of Sussex found that reading can reduce stress by up to 68 percent, which is perfect for those book-loving gents.

A great addition to your man cave are dark wooden bookshelves to store and organize your books of different genres. Enjoy a cup of coffee while you sit back, relax, and read through the lines of some of your favorite books. You get to relax, learn something new and enjoy a nice story.

Bring out the popcorn

After making yourself a bowl of popcorn and a nice cold drink, you can retreat to your man cave and watch your favorite film or series.

This is another great activity you can do in your man cave. Just get a television set and subscribe to your favorite streaming platform and you are all set for a movie marathon.

For a better viewing experience, ditch the television set for a movie or video projector. This will allow you to enjoy a wider screen and a more enjoyable film night alone or with your best buddies.

In addition, show off your inner cinephile by hanging posters of your favorite films around your man cave.

In the name of the game

A man cave can also be a place where you and your friends can hang out and have fun.

Different games like air hockey, pool, or ping pong can help you entertain your buddies for a long night.

You can also put a game table that is sleek and slender so it doesn’t take up a huge amount of floor space. Challenge your friends to a game or two for some fun and laughs. Let’s play!

Stacking up on food

A place to relax is not complete without food and drinks. You can put ready-to-consume chips or meals, as well as juices and sodas of your choice, in a mini fridge.

Keep your meals from rotting away and your brews cold in the cave with a mini fridge that can hold a nice amount of canned drink and some select food items. Just grab what you want and continue on with the relaxing night.

Music to your ears

Great music can also help you chill and unwind in your humble space. Blast some pop music or country jams through a sound system that has nice audio quality and which can also be used when you watch your favorite films.

A sound system that connects to any device at ease and comes with a universal remote control is an amazing choice when you want to veer away from those technological frustrations when you relax.

To have that vintage feeling in your man cave, you can purchase a vinyl record player over a sound system, and play classic songs from your favorite artists from the 60s to 80s, which will truly drive you around memory lane.
