CEMEX provides cement for longest bridge in the Philippines

Global cement giant CEMEX has announced recently that it was the sole supplier of cement for the construction of the longest bridge in the Philippines, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), a milestone project for the country.

CEMEX supplied nearly 70,000 metric tons of cement for CCLEX, which opened to traffic this year.

CEMEX said the project is a milestone project for the country as it  connects Cebu City to the municipality of Cordova on Mactan Island and spans a total of 8.9 kilometers standing on twin tower pylons reaching 145 meters in height.

The bridge, which opened to traffic in 2022, is expected to provide a  more efficient route for approximately 50,000 vehicles every day, seeking to improve the quality of life for residents of the area.

“CEMEX has been a proud contributor to the development of the Philippines for over a century, and our participation in CCLEX is further proof of our commitment to the country,” said Luis Franco, president of CEMEX in the Philippines.

“Projects such as this modernize the country and foster the wellbeing of its residents. Improving the quality of life of the citizens of our communities sits at the core of our purpose: to build a better future,” he added.

In the Philippines, CEMEX continues to partner with  public and private entities to support waste management efforts.

At its APO cement plant, CEMEX recently commissioned a 4.5 MW heat recovery facility that converts excess heat from the cement production process and converts it to electricity.

By 2030, the company expects to reduce its carbon footprint in cement production globally by 40 percent.

CEMEX is a global construction materials company that is building a better future through sustainable products and solutions.

It targets to achieve carbon neutrality research and development and innovative approaches.

CEMEX is at the forefront of the circular economy in the construction value chain and is pioneering ways to increase the use of waste and residues as alternative raw materials and fuels in its operations with the use of new technologies.

It offers cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and urbanization solutions in growing markets around the world, powered by a multinational workforce focused on providing a superior customer experience, enabled by digital technologies.
