Upgrading your house’s external beauty

Your house’s exterior is the first thing people see — so how does it look right now? You don’t need a lot of cash to quickly upgrade what some people call a home’s “curb appeal”. Here are a few ideas that won’t break the bank.

Paint your front door

Choose bold colors or subdued hues like cream or yellow accented with bright colors for the trimming. Shades of green also make your home blend with the landscape if there are plants and trees nearby. Bright red or blue paired with earth-toned walls of concrete can liven up the mood. Make sure to use outdoor paint and consider painting with saturated colors if the sun hits your front door directly because pastels will give it a washed-out effect.

Fix your windows, mailbox, and other visible parts of the house

Replace old and broken window panes and clean your windows, too. Put up a fresh set of curtains that matches the colors and design of your home. If your roof, gutters, mailbox, and railings are in need of repair or have to be replaced, try to fix the damage or hire a pro for a day to do the necessary work.

Clean your yard

Cut the grass, repot your plants, trim your hedges and bushes, and consider planting pretty flowers or ornamental greens to give your yard a new and refreshing look. Large potted plants serve as great accents for the entryway. Choose weatherproof containers made of concrete or ceramic — in rich colors, if you’re feeling adventurous!

Pick the right exterior lights

Lighting definitely adds charm to any home so make sure your porch lights are working. Consider placing fairy lights along the front walkway or pick a light fixture that complements your home’s architecture. For example, rustic lanterns are great for casually styled homes, and burnished bronze light fixtures compliment the modern design.

Use art

Some homeowners paint murals on the gate or the outside walls and fences of their homes. Others play it down a bit and just experiment with the design execution of the house numbers. An artwork will definitely make your home exterior stand out!
