Firsts are new, extraordinary, and unique — something that no one has ever experienced or tried before. Your firsts could make an impact — for some, it means dominance, legacy and history. As the world gives and takes away, we always tend to remember each milestone in our lives — some of our notable firsts.
Wilcon opened its first store in Iloilo in 2017 and we were amazed at how the Ilonggo taste fits the brand. Known as the Heart of the Philippines, the province is known for its rich culture and heritage. Soft and gentle spoken Ilonggos also have good aesthetics.
Our third branch in the province (and definitely not the last) located in Sta. Barbara is a notable place with a lot of firsts. It has come to my knowledge that the Philippine flag was raised for the first-time outside Luzon in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, giving the municipality its independence from Spain. As the cradle of the Philippine Revolution outside of Luzon, Sta. Barbara is known as a town of heritage, where many historical and cultural events take place.
One of the country’s most significant landmarks, which is also in Sta. Barbara, is the very first ever golf course in Asia — Sta. Barbara Golf Course, built in 1907. Aside from these green fields, the Western Visayas Sanitarium (WVS) in Santa Barbara, Iloilo was established as a treatment station for leprosy patients. It was commended by the Department of Health (DOH) as the go-to place for leprosy-related concerns and is an ISO certified institution since 2014.
Wilcon Depot is honored to be part of a place of genuine spirit and customs. Each of our firsts sets us on a unique path. My sincerest thanks to Mayor Dennis Superficial, who have shared with us municipality’s great history. We are looking forward to serving more Ilonggos with more Wilcon stores in the province. Here’s to you, who will discover the kind of uniqueness and abundance that lies in Iloilo.
