Megaworld expands in Negros Occidental with 97-hectare “The Sugartown” township

Megaworld is developing a new 97-hectare integrated township called The Sugartown along the Bacolod–Silay Airport Road in Talisay City. The project marks the company’s 37th township development nationwide and its third in Negros Occidental, following the launches of Northill Gateway and The Upper East in Bacolod City.

The Sugartown will be Megaworld’s first township in Talisay City and is envisioned as a comprehensive mixed-use development, drawing from the company’s decades of experience in building integrated estates and masterplanned communities across the country.

Planned to be developed over the next seven to ten years, Megaworld has allocated ₱8 billion for the township’s construction. The estate will host premium residential developments by both Megaworld and its wholly owned subsidiary, Suntrust Properties, Inc., alongside commercial and retail components. It will also feature its own town center, commercial district, and tourism-oriented facilities, positioning the township as both a destination and a residential community.

“Our vision for this new township in Negros Occidental is to provide new opportunities to help boost tourism in the province,” said Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso, president and CEO of Megaworld. “With its close proximity to the Bacolod–Silay Airport, this will be an exciting destination for visitors and tourists, and a vibrant enclave for residential living.”

The development comes as the Negros Island Region continues to take shape, supporting the growth of mixed-use communities beyond major urban centers. Kevin Tan, president and CEO of Alliance Global Group, Inc., Megaworld’s parent company, noted the increasing role of township developments in driving regional progress.

“With the Negros Island Region already in place, the future of this province is bright,” Tan said. “We have seen the rise of mixed-use developments not just in the capital but also in other towns and cities. Through this new township—our seventh in the Visayas—we are excited to further contribute to regional progress, especially in tourism.”

Strategically located, The Sugartown is less than five minutes from the Bacolod–Silay Airport and Talisay City Hall, and approximately 15 minutes from the Bacolod City Government Center. It is also situated near Megaworld’s existing townships in the area—about five minutes from Northill Gateway and 12 minutes from The Upper East—strengthening its position within a growing network of integrated estates in Negros Occidental.
