Artico Mandaue fully shifts to renewable energy under GEOP

AyalaLand Logistics Holdings Corp. (ALLHC) has completed the transition of its Artico Mandaue cold storage facility to 100 percent renewable energy, marking another milestone in its push for sustainable operations. The shift, finalized on July 26 through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), highlights the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.

By sourcing electricity from solar and geothermal energy, the facility is expected to significantly cut its carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative also aligns with parent firm Ayala Land, Inc.’s broader sustainability roadmap, which targets carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050.

Artico Mandaue is strategically located in Mandaue City, only 5 minutes away from the Port of Cebu.

“This is a major milestone for Artico Cold Chain and a concrete step forward in the sustainability journey of ALLHC,” said Robert S. Lao, President and CEO of ALLHC. “Our participation in the Green Energy Option Program not only demonstrates our commitment to a greener future but also enhances our operational efficiency. We are proud to be contributing to a more sustainable and resilient energy sector in the Philippines.”

The Green Energy Option Program, implemented under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, allows qualified end-users to contract power directly from accredited renewable energy providers. It is among the government’s key strategies to increase the share of renewables in the country’s energy mix and lessen reliance on fossil fuels.

Apart from its environmental benefits, the transition is also projected to improve cost efficiency, with ALLHC estimating as much as 30 percent savings on the facility’s monthly electricity expenses.

Artico Mandaue is the second facility under the company’s cold storage network to make the switch. In April 2024, Artico Biñan 2 in Laguna also transitioned to renewable energy through the GEOP. ALLHC has indicated plans to move more of its facilities to renewable power, reinforcing its role in advancing both the logistics sector and the country’s clean energy agenda.
