John Hay Hotels shares value for employee welfare

In a landmark move to support its loyal and long-serving employees, John Hay Hotels in Baguio—formerly known as The Manor and The Forest Lodge—has begun implementing a 5% service charge for the first time in its history, effective March 1, 2025.

The initiative, introduced by Landco Lifestyle Ventures (LLV), underscores a renewed commitment to employee welfare at one of Baguio City’s most beloved hospitality destinations. For years, the hotels’ staff have upheld a tradition of excellent service without the benefit of a service charge.

“Our people have always been the heart of the John Hay Hotels experience,” said Patrick C. Gregorio, Head of Landco Lifestyle Ventures. “This long-overdue service change is about fairness. It ensures our team shares in the value they help create—while also helping us sustain the exceptional level of service our guests expect.”

The newly implemented service charge will be distributed directly to hotel employees—many of whom have been with the properties for decades. According to Gregorio, the move is both a morale booster and a meaningful reflection of the hotel’s values, rooted in malasakit or genuine care.

“During our guests’ stay with us, our staff will be working continuously to deliver the outstanding hospitality that our guests deserve,” Gregorio added. “We ask for our guests’ support in this initiative. This small contribution directly enhances the lives of our team, and helps us continue providing heartfelt, exceptional service.”

The initiative is part of broader improvements currently underway under LLV, the hospitality arm of Landco Pacific Corporation and a member of the Metro Pacific Investments Group led by Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

LLV assumed interim operations of John Hay Hotels through the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). Alongside upgrades to infrastructure, amenities, and staff training programs, the focus on employee well-being reinforces John Hay Hotels’ commitment to delivering world-class service while fostering a workplace culture grounded in respect and shared success.
