Raising little champions: RLC Residences backs future triathletes

RLC Residences is taking meaningful strides to inspire Filipino families with Raising Little Champions, an initiative that supports youth sports through the RLC Residences Junior Triathlon Team, in partnership with IRONKIDS Philippines from 2025 to 2027.

By encouraging kids to take on the swim-bike-run challenge, the program promotes discipline, confidence, and resilience—values that extend beyond race day. It also gives families a chance to bond, grow, and share in their children’s progress.

“I (initially) encouraged them to get into triathlon so they could spend time swimming, running, and biking instead of being glued to gadgets,” shares Fatima Buensuceso, mom to Amir, 9, and Cyrus, 6. “Now, they understand the value of sports in their lives. It’s about building an optimistic attitude that boosts their confidence and allows them to truly enjoy the experiences of being an athlete.”

Structured training, goal-setting, and teamwork have helped transform the lives of young athletes like 7-year-old Haneul “Sky” Jung. “From not knowing any sport to learning how to swim, bike, and run is a great achievement that gave her confidence,” says her mother, Donna Jung. “RLC Residences gave Sky such a great opportunity to be a part of something that she can remember for the rest of her life.”

8-year old Xavier Benedict Belleza

Eight-year-old Xavier Benedict Belleza began his triathlon journey without swim training, but his passion grew quickly. “Seeing him at the finish line, beaming with pride, was an unforgettable moment,” says his mom, Gretchen. “That passion and drive made us fully committed to guide and support him in this journey.”

The program also sparked interest in siblings Lucas Alejandro, 14, and Logan Alec Abiogen, 10, both swimmers who’ve now embraced triathlon. “The idea of triathlon seemed like a perfect fit,” shares their mother, Christle Abiogen.

Meanwhile, 7-year-old Johan Benedict Santos draws inspiration from his father’s triathlon hobby. “They motivate each other, train together, and celebrate their accomplishments, which strengthens our bond as a family,” says his mom, Christy.

For these young athletes, progress is more important than podium finishes. “Our focus isn’t just on medals but on the learnings, experiences, and the journey itself,” Gretchen Belleza explains.

Parents agree that RLC Residences’ support has been instrumental in helping their kids pursue sports. “We couldn’t afford to support our kids’ triathlon journey on our own, but thanks to RLC Residences, they’ve been able to pursue their passion,” says Abiogen.

“RLC Residences provides a great opportunity to participate in organized sports, which could help aspiring athletes have a bright future in sports,” adds Jung.

From casual playmates to committed teammates, the program has helped build not just athletic skills but also stronger families and communities. “Our kids went from casual playmates to triathlon teammates,” says Santos. “As parents, we love how this shapes a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.”

For families looking to start their own journey, the advice is simple: let kids explore and enjoy the process. “Support them unconditionally, celebrate their efforts, and teach them that winning isn’t everything,” says Belleza. Santos adds, “It’s important to ensure that they genuinely enjoy the activity and feel motivated to participate.”

Through Raising Little Champions, RLC Residences continues to help build a future where kids can dream big, grow with purpose, and thrive—on and off the racecourse.
