There’s a patch of land across the entrance of a memorial park in the city where, on any given weekend, Filipinos can be seen unwinding, getting active, or simply spending quality time together. In this small space, there are joggers and cyclists, children playing, and students dancing. One time, as I drove past, I even saw a couple practicing a ballroom dance routine – complete in attire and heels! Seeing this scene often made me realize that that patch of land is an example of how Filipinos are yearning for open spaces where they can move freely and actively.
That’s why visiting Vermosa Open Streets felt like witnessing a solution to a deeply felt need. Located in Imus, Cavite, this initiative by Ayala Land and Vermosa offers a unique opportunity for families, fitness enthusiasts, and even curious passersby to come together and make movement part of their weekends. Walking through the car-free streets reminded me of my childhood spent biking in Luneta Park—a time of unbridled joy and connection with nature. Vermosa Open Streets offers that same energy, repackaged for today’s health-conscious community.

Chrissy Roa, Corporate and Estates Marketing and Communications Group Head at Ayala Land, puts it best, “Vermosa Open Streets is inspired by the now-famous Car-free Sundays along Ayala Avenue, which was also our initiative, our program in Makati. Vermosa was really conceptualized towards an advocacy—to get the community into a more active and healthy lifestyle. It’s really about overall wellness for the community. So it is our desire with this new program, Open Streets, to give them that opportunity and, of course, the venue. Sometimes, it’s the lack of space that discourages people to get into fitness activities.”
The program runs every weekend until February 23, 2025, closing major roads in the estate to vehicular traffic and transforming them into zones for cycling, running, roller skating, and group fitness classes. The setting, surrounded by landscaped parks and the lush Vermosa Greenway, provides a backdrop that inspires not just activity but also community spirit. Visitors can also enjoy food booths, painting sessions, and other engaging activities that make Vermosa a destination for families and individuals alike.
“This is a trial run,” Roa explains. “We are going to have it first until February 23, but hopefully, if more people come, we can extend it beyond one month.”
The importance of initiatives like Vermosa Open Streets cannot be overstated. In a fast-paced and often congested urban setting, access to open spaces where one can exercise, bond with loved ones, or simply breathe fresh air becomes a rare commodity. Programs like these pave the way for healthier, happier lifestyles while fostering stronger community connections.
The philosophy behind Vermosa Open Streets is clear: wellness is not just a personal choice but a communal experience. It builds on Ayala Land’s commitment to promoting sustainable and vibrant communities where people can thrive. From its Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub to its institutional partnerships, Vermosa has been steadily carving out a reputation as a haven for those seeking active, meaningful lifestyles.
So why not make your weekends a little more active? Whether you’re looking to jumpstart your fitness journey, spend quality time with loved ones, or simply try something new, Vermosa Open Streets has something for everyone. Lace up your running shoes, grab your bike, and head to Vermosa. Let’s help extend this wonderful program beyond February—because the community deserves it.
