Taal Vista Hotel: 85 Years of generational impact and community-building

Taal Vista Hotel, a cherished landmark in Tagaytay, marks its 85th anniversary this year, reflecting a legacy of community empowerment, sustainability, and inclusivity. Famous for its panoramic views of Taal Volcano, the hotel has grown into a vital pillar of economic and social progress, touching the lives of employees, suppliers, and residents throughout the Tagaytay area.

As part of the SM Group, Taal Vista’s community-oriented programs align with the group’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and inclusive development, ensuring its impact resonates far beyond its scenic location.

Empowering Careers, Changing Lives

For Taal Vista employees, the hotel represents more than a workplace—it’s a gateway to opportunity. Joel Tubig, a pool attendant, shares how his life transformed after receiving a technical-vocational scholarship from the SM Foundation.

“Taal Vista is not just a hotel; it’s part of my family’s journey. Because of the opportunities here, I’ve been able to send my children to private school, buy a car, and invest in property. Without this job, I don’t know where I’d be today,” Joel reflected.

This theme of empowerment is echoed by Jeric Tenorio, a room attendant celebrating 13 years at Taal Vista. Starting as an on-the-job trainee, Jeric advanced his career while completing his degree, thanks to the hotel’s supportive environment.

“Taal Vista invests in its people. The training and support I received here gave me the confidence to grow professionally and personally,” Jeric shared. Now a mentor to new hires, Jeric embodies the hotel’s commitment to employee development.

With 79% of its workforce sourced from nearby communities, Taal Vista strengthens the local economy by providing steady income and career opportunities to Tagaytay residents, creating a ripple effect of progress and upliftment.

Partnering with Local Suppliers and Advocating Sustainability

Taal Vista’s influence extends beyond its employees. Through its Green Procurement Program, the hotel partners with 255 local suppliers, sourcing goods and services ranging from food to crafts. This initiative ensures that the hotel’s operations directly support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the community.

In collaboration with local designer Zarah Juan and Bahay Kalingap Casa de Suenos, Taal Vista introduced Tela Tales, a program that repurposes old hotel linens into eco-friendly bags. This initiative not only reduces waste but also provides livelihood opportunities for women volunteers. Additionally, the hotel incorporates farm-to-table practices, cultivating fresh produce from its own vegetable garden.

“Taal Vista’s focus on sustainability and supporting local suppliers boosts the economy while promoting an environmentally responsible business model,” said Ramon Makilan, General Manager of Taal Vista.

A Legacy of Community-Centered Excellence

Taal Vista Hotel’s 85-year history is a testament to its enduring commitment to the people and communities it serves. By offering career development, championing local enterprises, and integrating sustainable practices, the hotel has become a driving force for positive change in Tagaytay.

“Our dedication to creating opportunities, fostering sustainability, and supporting our community remains as strong as ever,” shared Makilan. “We look forward to building on this legacy and contributing to future generations.”

Taal Vista Hotel stands as a shining example of how businesses can achieve success while uplifting communities, leaving a lasting legacy of empowerment and shared prosperity.
