Sumisetsu Philippines elevates construction and technical skills training in Bulacan

Sumisetsu Philippines, Inc. (SPI), a trusted leader in electrical and mechanical construction services, continues its commitment to enhancing skills and promoting innovation in the industry with the launch of its new Technical Center in Baliuag, Bulacan. This state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated on October 8, marks a significant step forward in training and skill-building for SPI employees, subcontractors, and select Filipino workers in collaboration with government partners.

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting and tree-planting event was led by Mr. Makoto Tani, president of Sumitomo Densetsu Co., Ltd., alongside prominent guests, including Ms. Mary Grace T. Romero, provincial director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Mr. Tani emphasized the values of Sumitomo Densetsu—Sincerity, Teamwork, and Creation—highlighting the role of the center in promoting safety and quality through comprehensive training programs. “This center not only allows us to further improve our services but also serves as a hub for showcasing the wide range of SPI’s offerings, all while contributing to a sustainable future through advanced technology,” Mr. Tani remarked.

Headquartered in Makati City, SPI is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Densetsu and has over three decades of experience in the construction industry. The company offers a variety of services, including electrical and mechanical installations, air conditioning systems, and production equipment setups.

The new Technical Center spans 6,000 square meters and comprises three key buildings: a 1,160-square-meter Training Center, a 620-square-meter Fabrication Workshop, and a Warehouse. The facility is equipped with energy-efficient technologies such as solar panels and skylights, underscoring SPI’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

As part of the event, officials and guests participated in the symbolic planting of Banaba trees, which were chosen for their violet blooms, a color that aligns with SPI’s corporate identity. The tree planting signified the growth and expansion that the new center aims to foster.

Key attendees included TESDA Director Melanie Grace Romero, SPI General Manager Mr. Geofrey Gadiana, Business Development Manager Ms. Michelle Medina, and representatives of Czark Mak. Also present were Mr. Tomonori Nakagawa, president of SPI, and members of the Sumitomo Densetsu leadership team.

Following the ceremonies, guests were invited to explore a photo exhibit and demo installations before touring the facility. Divided into two groups, the tours were led by SPI President Mr. Tomonori Nakagawa and Construction Division Manager Mr. Daniel Karlo Espejo, alongside SPI Sales Division Manager Mr. Ryan Mosqueda.

Mr. Nakagawa highlighted the center’s role in the development of SPI’s training programs, which are crafted by the Sumitomo Densetsu Group and focus on advanced labor-saving and off-site construction methods. “These programs enable us to meet project deadlines while ensuring high-quality workmanship,” he noted. “We also plan to extend our expertise beyond Japanese corporations to serve major Filipino and Western companies.”

In line with SPI’s commitment to sustainability, the facility has been designed with energy-saving features and aims to secure the prestigious LEED Gold certification, a highly regarded environmental rating from the United States. Mr. Nakagawa also underscored SPI’s alignment with TESDA to enhance the quality and recognition of its training programs. “TESDA accreditation is a mark of trust in the Philippines, and we are working closely with them to evolve our programs,” he added.

Drawing from Sumitomo Densetsu’s successful training model in Thailand, operational since 2014, SPI is poised to become a key player in the Philippine construction industry. “Our cutting-edge construction methods and focus on skilled worker education will set us apart in the market,” Mr. Nakagawa emphasized.

“As we carry out this endeavor with sincerity, we aim to foster innovation and collaboration, transcending company boundaries to create new values and groundbreaking construction methods,” he concluded.
