Eight Filipino Projects Shortlisted for the Prestigious WAF 2024

The Philippines continues to make its mark in the global design scene, as eight outstanding projects from across the country have been shortlisted in eight distinct categories at the prestigious World Architecture Festival 2024 (WAF). The event, set to take place in Singapore from November 6 to 8, 2024, highlights architectural brilliance from around the world.

This year’s lineup includes seven Filipino firms making their WAF debut, alongside one returning participant. These firms will represent the country and present their innovative projects to an esteemed international panel of judges.

Representing Metro Manila are Archion Architects, entering their second year in the competition. They have been shortlisted in the Future Projects: Health category for their project, Felicidad Sy Multi-Specialty Building, located in Taft Avenue, Ermita. Bacungan Architects, a newcomer, qualified under the Future Projects: Competition category for The Waste-Wise House in North Caloocan. Completing the roster from Metro Manila is Pluszerotwo Architecture, making its WAF debut with Balai Ani: House of Harvest in Angono, Rizal, shortlisted in the Future Projects: Residential category.

From Cebu, three firms bring their creative talents to the WAF stage. LLG Architects Design Studio is competing in the Future Projects: Residential category with their project The Rise at Monterazzas. Obra Majoralia Architecture presents their award-winning Loboc Performing Arts Center, shortlisted in the Future Projects: Culture category. This project also won the GROHE Young Visionaries Challenge. Lastly, San Studio will showcase Interweaving Dualities: Reimagining City Hall Architecture, located in Lapu-Lapu City, which made the shortlist for the Future Projects: Civic category as a Kanto Selection.

From Davao, LT Pagaduan Design Studio is shortlisted in the Future Projects: Infrastructure category for their project New Public Market and Terminal Complex, located in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. Meanwhile, Swito Designs made it to the Future Projects: Civic category with their entry Peace Building, located in Maguindanao Del Norte Provincial Capitol, Davao City.

In preparation for WAF, these finalists took part in a series of preparatory events organized by WAF’s founding partner, GROHE, in collaboration with Kanto, the official media partner for WAF Philippines.

Launched in 2008, the World Architecture Festival is the world’s largest annual international architectural event, featuring panel discussions and talks from leading global architects and industry thought leaders.
