From dreams to 98 stores and counting

What’s your most significant FLEX?

When I first heard this term from Gen Z, I found it quite intriguing. It’s their trendy way of sharing one remarkable achievement or accomplishment.

If you were to ask me, my ultimate “flex” would be my journey with the company over the past four decades—one filled with dreams, hard work, and remarkable achievements. I witnessed firsthand how it grew from a small retailer to the Philippines’ leading home improvement and construction supplier.

Yes, I am talking about Wilcon Depot. I am truly proud to have been part of this company for 40 years—not only for the professional growth I experienced but also for the opportunity to contribute to the development and prosperity of the communities we serve across the country.

One of the most recent feasts was opening our new store in Pala-Pala, Cavite. It is our 8th store in the province of Cavite, following the Wilcon Depot Dasmariñas, Wilcon Depot Bacoor, Wilcon Depot Kawit, Wilcon Depot General Trias, Wilcon Depot Silang, and Wilcon Home Essentials Tagaytay, and we are thrilled to bring our world-class products and excellent customer service to this thriving region. Our decision to expand into Cavite was not spur-of-the-moment. We have been closely monitoring the province’s economic growth and potential to become a hub for home building and improvement.

This moment made me think back to the first time we opened our store in Cavite in 2011. It was located in Dasmariñas and quickly became the favorite of many Caviteños due to its comprehensive product offerings and excellent customer service. And the rest is history. Fast-forward to 2024, and we have almost reached our #FlyHighTo100 store expansion campaign with the new Pala-Pala branch, which brings our total store count to 98 nationwide.

Cavite, particularly the Pala-Pala area, has experienced a remarkable surge in development over the past years. The region has seen significant investment in residential and commercial projects, driven by the growing local population’s purchasing power and the influx of businesses setting up operations.

“Persistence is the twin sister of excellence. One is a matter of quality; the other, a matter of time.” — Marabel Morgan.

I know that we all have to go through our battles and challenges before we can achieve success. To be honest, aside from “Flexing” the number of stores and achievements we have earned, I believe the real flex is that everything is not an overnight success but rather the result of a long and arduous journey filled with challenges, setbacks, and hard-won victories, which we fought and overcame.

So if you see someone “Flexing” their achievement, big or small, let them be because every individual has a story to tell. This is a reminder that everyone deserves a cheer for pursuing their dreams and reaching their goals, no matter how long the journey may be.
