The Nepomuceno Legacy: Pacesetter of progress in Angeles City

For nearly six decades, the Nepomuceno family has been a cornerstone of Angeles City’s growth and development. With the establishment of Juan D. Nepomuceno Sons, Inc. (JDN) and its sister company, TGN Realty Corporation, they have cultivated a legacy of service, excellence, and unwavering commitment to the community.

Founded in 1979, JDN embarked on a mission to cater to the needs of the local populace. This vision has since evolved into a grand endeavor that has significantly elevated the entrepreneurial landscape and lifestyle standards in Angeles City. The company’s journey is marked by milestones that reflect its growth and impact on the community.

Engr. Peter G. Nepomuceno, the company’s visionary leader, shares, “In 1968, we put up NEPO Mart, which became famous for PX items. In 2003, we inaugurated NEPO Mall Angeles, the first mall in Angeles City. Entec 1 was opened as the first BPO building in Angeles City proper. Now we have the Rockwell development. The NEPO group is a pacesetter of progress in Angeles City.”

These developments have not only provided essential services and amenities but have also created numerous job opportunities, contributing to the economic vitality of Angeles City. The Nepomuceno family’s efforts have been instrumental in transforming the city into a hub of commerce and industry.

The role of family in business and community

The Nepomuceno family’s deep roots in Angeles City trace back to the early 20th century. Engr. Peter G. Nepomuceno recounts, “In 1923, my parents established the Angeles Electric Corporation to provide electric service to Angeles. This accelerated the growth and progress of Angeles. In 1933, my parents established the Holy Angel Academy, now Holy Angel University, the biggest school North of Manila. Together with the other schools, Angeles became a center of education. In the ‘60s, we opened the Nepo Center starting with NEPO Mart, then NEPO Mall, Entec 1, Entec 2, Quad, and now Rockwell at Nepo Center, with residential condominiums and the Powerplant Mall. Nepo Center is now the center of business and commerce. In the mid-60s, we opened Villa Teresa Subdivision, the prestige place to be.”

Nepomuceno III in 2001, then Arsenio N. Valdes, and now Rick N. Wilkerson. The current board of directors comprises the third generation of Nepomucenos, who carry forward the values of the founders: integrity, generosity, fairness, credibility, and service to the community.

The family’s connection to Angeles City and its commitment to its development has fostered a sense of continuity and purpose. Their leadership has been characterized by a service-oriented approach, providing business opportunities for others, creating job opportunities, and ensuring credibility and fairness in dealings with all stakeholders.

Helping the community: A legacy of corporate social responsibility

The Nepomuceno family’s impact on Angeles City extends far beyond infrastructure. Their dedication to improving Angeles City has created a vibrant community where businesses like ours can thrive. We are grateful for their support through the years, especially during difficult seasons such as the Mount Pinatubo eruption, the time when the US bases pulled out, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic.”

JDN Realty Group’s corporate social responsibility initiatives have played a crucial role in supporting the local community. The company has been involved in various outreach programs and community events, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support. Pinky Nepomuceno, a fourth-generation family member, shares her hopes for the future, “My hope is that as our family and businesses continue to grow, alongside the development in the region, we remain rooted in the legacy started by my great-grandparents, Juan D. Nepomuceno and Teresa Gomez Nepomuceno. Their story of service to and deep love for Angeles City and its people inspires us daily.”

Pinky recalls her childhood memories of her parents working for the family business in Angeles and commuting daily from Manila. She now understands that their work was not just about business – it was deeply personal. They built relationships, pouring their hearts and souls into growing the malls and the school, hoping that the people around them would prosper and lead fulfilling lives.
