NEO celebrates World Environment Day every day

Every year on June 5th, the world celebrates World Environment Day, a United Nations-led initiative to raise awareness and inspire action on environmental issues. For NEO, a leading developer, owner and manager of seven green buildings in Bonifacio Global City, Manila, environmental sustainability isn’t just a yearly commitment – it’s a core value.

At this initiative’s helm is Gie Garcia, Co-Managing Director and Chief Sustainability Officer of NEO. Garcia emphasizes, “Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us; it’s a way of life. Through milestones and partnerships, we have achieved certifications from the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC)’s Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE) and Advancing Net Zero Philippines (ANZ/PH), as well as EDGE, Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Efficiency Excellence awards, the switch to a renewable energy source upon the start of the Open Access Regime (RCOA), and being the first in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to offer an electric vehicle charging station powered by 100% renewable energy.

NEO’s ESG efforts create a positive impact on the environment through energy efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, green building design, and water conservation. Achieving 41%-49% energy savings with EDGE Advanced certifications, NEO uses energy-efficient LED lighting and advanced HVAC systems, and sources its power supply from 100% renewable energy. The green building designs, including Six/NEO’s and Seven/NEO’s building orientations, minimize solar gain, while other buildings incorporate biophilic elements like green walls and parks to reduce the urban heat island effect. Additionally, NEO’s water conservation measures save 22%-55% through waterless urinals, low-flow faucets, and high-performance water closets, demonstrating its strong commitment to sustainable development.

Waste management demonstrates their commitment too. Clearly labeled bins promote waste segregation, recyclables and non-biodegradables are diverted to proper facilities, hazardous waste is handled by certified collectors, and awareness campaigns encourage responsible practices. NEO’s efforts extend beyond their own buildings. They participate in coastal cleanups, partner with organizations for waste diversion projects, and actively contribute to a greener future. Their dedication to environmental responsibility serves as an inspiration for businesses and individuals alike, proving that sustainability can be a way of life, every day.
