For me, Malabon is not just a name of the traditional noodle dish. It is special because it reminds me of a place that was a significant stepping stone in my life—a witness to both my small wins and significant milestones that fortified the disposition to be the woman I am today.
At the Rizal Park Hotel in Manila on November 15th, I was given the chance to reconnect with my roots. Honored and humbled, I received the Malabon Medal Badge Lifetime Award at the 40th Gintong Parangal at Dangal ng Malabon Awards. Holding this certificate, which names me as one of the Outstanding Citizens of Malabon, felt truly special.
Hon. Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and other local officials handed me this award as a recognition of my expertise in the Field of Retail industry. It’s a pleasure to be recognized for doing what I love and work hard for. The passion we exert into our vocation is what makes every award truly well-deserved. My deepest thanks to the coordinators, facilitators, Kasama Inc., fellow awardees, and, of course, the hardworking and very first woman mayor of Malabon.

I saw both familiar and new faces from Malabon, as well as those who had traveled far to attend. This truly filled me with joy. It was wonderful to see the collaboration and dedication that brought this event to life. It was also touching to realize that no matter where life takes us—even to the farthest corners of the world in our personal journeys—coming home to where it all started fills you with a unique and overwhelming sense of gratitude, of immense thankfulness. My cup runneth over.
The event had such a fun and welcoming vibe, and I loved every moment of it. The speeches from role models who excel in their respective fields were profound and thought-provoking. The performances, both dances and songs, were full of life, a quaint reminder of our Filipino love for music, culture, and celebration.
I share my wins with all the people who have been part of my journey. These are not just certificates to display but reminders and encouragement to keep doing our best. In fact, I view this recognition as a responsibility to strive even harder for my hometown and the nation.
Last year, I was unable to attend to receive my Huwaran ng Malabon 2024, so I deeply anticipated this opportunity. I can say with confidence that the experience did not come short. Standing among my fellow awardees made me happy. I pass on these blessings to the future leaders who will continue building our community. May we never run dry of courage and resilience so we can reach greater heights in life.
May our victories empower not only ourselves but everyone around us. Let us use our skills to uplift others and be a voice for those with less influence. And as we rise to the top, may we never forget to lead with kindness.
I no longer live in our humble abode in Malabon. But this city will always be special to me. Each visit to this place will always be a trip of thankfulness. And as the oft-repeated phrase says, you can take the girl out of Malabon, but you can’t take Malabon out of the girl.
Proud Malabonian, always.
