Joyce Wang and Ayala Land Premier redefine city calm with Laurean Residences

Property Report attended the exclusive unveiling of Laurean Residences, Ayala Land Premier’s newest flagship development rising in Dela Rosa Gardens, Makati. The event invited guests to experience Ayala Land’s evolving vision for city living—one that balances design, heritage, and hospitality through the perspective of acclaimed designer Joyce Wang, who shared the creative journey and philosophy behind Laurean’s thoughtfully curated spaces.

In an interview, Wang described the collaboration with Ayala Land Premier as one built on trust, kindness, and shared purpose. “Honestly, it made my job much easier,” she recalls. “There was this grand vision and a very rich heritage—everything we discussed was reflected in how they work and deliver every day.”

A partnership built on trust

For Wang—founder and principal of Joyce Wang Studio, with degrees in Architecture and Materials Science from MIT and a Master’s from the Royal College of Art—Laurean Residences became more than a design commission. “It really feels like having a very committed partner,” she says. “Ayala Land has a long-term vision—something meant to be passed down through generations. The kindness and trust of the Ayala Land team have motivated us to perform well, to do something very special.”

She adds that this spirit reflects what she admires most about Filipino culture—the kindness, warmth, and joy that shine even in the midst of hard work. This collaboration shaped a project that combines international design discipline with the Filipino sense of warmth and connection. “Here, we wanted to up our game—ensuring every detail, from the juxtaposition of materials to their longevity, reflects a vision meant to last for generations,” Wang adds.

Her studio, whose projects span luxury hotels and residences such as The Berkeley in London, The Residences at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, and Mott 32 in Cebu, is guided by values of curiosity, craftsmanship, and integrity. These principles align naturally with Ayala Land Premier’s philosophy of creating enduring addresses that integrate lifestyle, culture, and value.

Design that balances structure and soul

Set within Makati’s Dela Rosa Gardens, Laurean Residences is envisioned as a serene enclave in the city’s core—“a pocket of green that feels secluded even in the middle of everything,” Wang says. The tower, rising 65 stories, will integrate seamlessly into Makati’s walkways and green corridors, connecting residents to dining destinations, cultural landmarks, and art spaces within minutes.

Wang’s creative process, inspired by chess, aviation, and fashion, brings both precision and poetry to the interiors. “The chessboard gives you order. Aviation gives you lift. Fashion brings emotion,” she explains. “Together, they shape spaces that let you live as the best version of yourself.”

From geometry and balance to lightness and texture, every element was conceived to create movement and calm. Every material and finish, Wang notes, has been personally reviewed and approved to ensure durability and sensory harmony. The result is a design language that feels grounded yet aspirational—where structure meets soul, and beauty meets purpose.

City calm, redefined

Beyond design, Wang drew inspiration from how Filipinos gather and connect. “The suite of amenities here is unparalleled—places that allow families to host, to gather, to connect,” she says. “For me, spaces are about human relationships; legacies are created through these connections.”

Laurean dedicates over half a hectare to wellness and social spaces, including spa lounges, private dining rooms, co-working areas, and garden decks—envisioned as extensions of daily life where residents can unwind, create, or simply breathe. Mindful not to overdesign, her team embraced simplicity and flexibility, giving homeowners a neutral yet elegant canvas to make their own. “We wanted buyers to have a space where they can create their own stories,” she adds.

Reflecting on the project, Wang offers a quiet truth that anchors her philosophy, “Space is so powerful—you don’t have to have much. You can make people feel so much.”

Through Laurean Residences, Ayala Land Premier and Joyce Wang redefine city calm—creating a living sanctuary that celebrates connection, craftsmanship, and the quiet confidence of timeless design.
