A dream realized.
Before the Lee family established The Oriental Hotels and Resorts, current CEO Rebecca Marie Abigail Lee remembers how her father, Wilbert, had trained his sights on what used to be just one Oriental Hotel.
“One day, I’m going to own that hotel,” Lee recalls her dad saying when she was younger.
Her father’s dream was shared by the entire family. So when they finally acquired what used to be the Mayon Imperial Hotel, now The Oriental Legazpi, and eventually expanded it into the hotel and resort conglomerate it is today, there was much cause for celebration.

“I grew up learning from my parents how to run the hotel,” Lee says. “Now, every day, I am able to apply what I learned from them, and even put in my own touches to make our hotels better.”
Recently, The Oriental Hotels and Resorts inked a strategic partnership with The Philippine STAR that would further solidify its commitment to delivering only premium experiences to its guests.

As a direct result of the partnership, the hotel chain will now be providing all its guests both print and digital editions of The Philippine STAR across all six of its hotels.

“We want to be the best Filipino-owned hotel conglomerate in the Philippines,” says Lee. “We want to add everything a guest would need [in our hotels], including guest services, which covers a daily supply of the news.”
As guests check in, and for the duration of their stay, they will be given access to the latest news, features, and lifestyle content from the country’s leading newspaper.

Guests may choose between reading the news traditionally—on paper—or digitally via The Philippine STAR E-paper.
To access the latter, all guests need to do is log on to the hotel’s wifi with their mobile device, scan the QR code found at the front desk (and displayed at strategic points throughout the hotel), and begin reading The STAR. Just like reading the newspaper on actual paper, The STAR’s E-paper has no pop-up ads, and is accessible at any point in the hotel. Poolside, in the tub, or lounging in the hotel garden—guests may read The STAR at their leisure anywhere in The Oriental Hotels.

This pivotal partnership between two leading brands reflects a shared vision: to provide guests and readers with only the best experiences.
All guests in all The Oriental hotels will enjoy this special amenity: The Oriental Tagaytay, The Oriental Bataan, The Oriental Legazpi, The Inns by The Oriental Bacolod, PROXY by The Oriental Albay, and PROXY Plus by The Oriental Pangasinan.
Whether you’re sunbathing on the beach in Pangasinan or breathing in the cool mountain air of Tagaytay, you can be sure that The Oriental Hotels and Resorts and The Philippine STAR are working together to make it the ultimate escape-—while still staying connected to the news.
In many ways, an excellent hotel stay is attributed to the venue’s grand amenities: a sumptuous buffet, a luxurious room, and world-class service. But often, what makes it a five-star experience is the attention to detail: a chocolate mint on a pillow, personalized service, and the daily news from the country’s leading newspaper right at your fingertips.
