SM Development Corporation (SMDC), the residential arm of SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI), has inaugurated Iloilo’s first vertical socialized housing project, KaUSWAGAN Residences, marking a significant step in addressing the national housing backlog.
Developed in collaboration with the Iloilo City Government and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), the Php 248-million KaUSWAGAN Residences provides affordable housing for local government employees. “This project underscores SMDC’s commitment to supporting the government’s socialized housing program,” stated SMPHI President Jeffrey C. Lim. “We are proud to deliver high-quality homes for Filipino workers and contribute to building thriving communities.”
Situated just 6.5 kilometers from Iloilo City Hall in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, KaUSWAGAN Residences features two four-story buildings with 30-square-meter units, ample parking, and convenient city access, making it ideal for government workers.
A model for future collaborations
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas highlighted the project as a template for future public-private housing initiatives: “The City Government of Iloilo is grateful for our partnership with SMDC. KaUSWAGAN Residences addresses a critical need for affordable housing, setting a benchmark for public-private collaborations in housing that we hope to replicate.”
In addition to KaUSWAGAN, SMDC has committed P1.108 billion to socialized housing across the Philippines, including projects in Davao, Eastern Samar, Cavite, and Abra, each targeting specific community needs and disaster recovery efforts.
SMDC’s other developments in Iloilo include the upscale Style Residences in the Lifestyle District and the sustainable Glade Residences in Jaro, reflecting the corporation’s dedication to providing diverse housing options that cater to various lifestyles and income brackets.
By delivering projects like KaUSWAGAN Residences, SMDC is helping to make homeownership a reality for Filipinos nationwide, solidifying its vision of creating a “nation of homeowners.”
