American Standard, a leading name in sanitary ware and a part of LIXIL, recently honored the exceptional talents of the next generation of designers at the American Standard Design Award (ASDA) 2024. The awards ceremony, held in Singapore, showcased the creative and purposeful designs that emerged from nearly five thousand participants across six Asia-Pacific (APAC) countries.
This year’s theme, “Home Away From Home,” challenged student designers to create innovative hospitality bathroom solutions that exude the warmth and comfort of home, aligning with American Standard’s ethos of LIFE.LOVE.HOME.
Ricardo Noel Bonalos, an undergraduate design student from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, won the prestigious ASDA APAC Grand Prize. His entry, “SereniScape Retreat: Your Personal Urban Oasis,” masterfully combined natural elements and thoughtful design to transform a bathroom into a tranquil sanctuary. His concept featured customizable cabinets, allowing guests to tailor the space to their needs, creating a personalized and homey atmosphere.
Reflecting on his journey, Ricardo shared, “This project demanded meticulous attention to detail and a deep consideration of materials and fixtures. Despite the time-intensive process, it was an invaluable educational experience. The ASDA has significantly bolstered my confidence and refined my approach to real-world projects, providing a platform to learn from top industry minds.”
Antoine Besseyre Des Horts, Leader, LIXIL Global Design, Asia, highlighted the competition’s purpose, “The ASDA platform is designed to nurture and recognize emerging talent in the industry. The impressive caliber of entries, centered around the theme ‘Home Away From Home,’ continues to astonish our judges. It’s rewarding to witness the platform’s growth and the impactful designs it fosters.”
He further added, “When away from home, we seek spaces that relax, inspire, and rejuvenate us. The regional finalists from six countries have encapsulated this essence in their projects, receiving valuable mentorship from our distinguished judges. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all ASDA 2024 winners and finalists and look forward to their continued success.”
